Hunter Valley is one of Australia’s major wine regions, best known for producing semillon and shiraz.

Hunter Valley, also known as the Hunter Region, is a major wine region in the north of New South Wales. About a three-hour drive from Sydney, you’ll be in the Hunter Valley, which is almost 22,700 kilometres square! In fact, Hunter Valley is one of Australia’s largest wine regions.

What are some wineries to visit?

Hunter Valley has over 150 wineries spread across the region. One of the best towns to visit for wineries is Pokolbin.

• Sobels Wines

Sobels Wines offers a great selection of local wines you can try and buy. You can taste a lot of different wines at the cellar door from sparkling wines to white, red, and even tawny.

• Pepper Tree Wines

With vineyards in four different premium regions across Australia, Pepper Tree Wines produces delicious high-quality wines. The winery has been making wines for over 30 years in the Hunter Valley allowing visitors to taste some wines in the cellar door.

• Tempus Two

Tempus Two sources their grapes from around the world, creating unique tasting wines that can be enjoyed for all occasions. The high-quality wines can be tasted in the Tempus Two cellar door in Hunter Valley. You can go for a regular wine tasting, chocolate and wine paring, a lux wine tasting, or even a gin tasting!

• Briar Ridge Vineyard

Briar Ridge Vineyard is one of Australia’s best value wineries! The vineyards here have been growing for 45 years, providing some high-quality fruit for the wines. Come down to the cellar door to taste some classic wines or to try the radica tasting experience.

Other things to do in Hunter Valley

Aside from tasting the local wines, here are a few things you can do while exploring the Hunter Valley.

• Hunter Valley Gardens

The Hunter Valley Gardens has a beautiful range of different plants to walk around and see. There is also a shopping village, a winery, and a restaurant where you can stop by for a delicious lunch.

• Hunter Valley Chocolate Company

If you’re looking for some sweet treats, the Hunter Valley Chocolate Company has you covered. You can buy all things chocolate, mouthwatering fudge, and tasty gelato. There is also a cafe where you must try the hot chocolate!

• Distilleries and breweries

Not a wine person or want something else? Hunter Valley has a few different distilleries and breweries you can visit for a drink or a tasting!

If you want to go to a distillery, we recommend Small Mouth, Hunter Distillery, and Pokolbin Distillery. But if you want a pint of beer, here are some of the top breweries, the Mighty Hunter Valley, Hunter Beer Co, and IronBark Hill Brewing Co.
