Reading time: 3 mins

Enjoy tasting wines from a local winery while learning about the wine making process.

Each winery usually has its own set times when it comes to wine tastings. Usually, you’ll be there for about 30 to 45 minutes. This is just for the tasting, learning about the wine and how the winemakers create the wines.

But you can extend your time by looking around the vineyards and checking out the cellar door sho[.

What’s the best way to get to a winery?

Some of the best ways to get to a winery (and to others) are by car, tour, or bicycle.

Driving yourself can be a good option as you can select your own wineries to go to and you can spend more time at each winery. This can also be the same case if you rode a bicycle, but you might have trouble reaching wineries further away.

Booking a tour can be beneficial as you’re driven around to selected wineries and get a great experience. You’ll also be able to happily enjoy the wine tastings at each one without worrying about driving to the next. This is one of the main reasons why wine tours are a great option because all you need to do for the day is enjoy yourself!

What is it like being at a winery?

Each winery experience is different, as the staff offers different wines, talks about their process, and the story of the winery.

But usually, you’ll get shown the list of wines you’ll be trying. You will start with the lighter white wines, moving over to rosè if there are any, then to the dark reds before trying any dessert wines.

Some cellar doors offer nibbles like cheese or chocolate that pair with the wine you’re tasting to enhance the experience.

You may spend some more than 30 to 45 minutes at a winery if there is a lunch or nibbles that come along with your tasting. But regardless, it can be good to sometimes set an hour just in case the tasting goes for a bit longer than expected. You’ll have a good time however trying a nice selection of the winery’s best wine.

If you’re someone who enjoys wine with the addition of food, there’s a Wine and Foodie Experience tour in the Hunter Valley. The tour goes to three boutique wineries where you’ll also have cheese and chocolate paired tastings with the wine.
